Juan Sebastián holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá. His Masters in Finance at LBS is sponsored by the Central Bank of Colombia, where Juan Sebastián served as a specialised analyst in financial stability.
During his five years of experience in the central bank, he led the real estate risk division of his department, producing the first hedonic housing price index with spatial effects for Colombia. He has focused his research in credit risk, producing a default probability forecast model for Colombian banks and several rating models for financial conglomerates and sovereigns. He was recognised with the Central Bank of Colombia meritorious group labour award for co-developing a methodology for determining the maximum remunerative interest rate for housing loans in Colombia.
Juan Sebastián decided to join the Masters in Finance programme at LBS to complement his background as an economist with a deeper understanding of financial markets. LBS was the obvious choice given the top-class faculty members, the diversity of backgrounds and experience requirements of the candidates, the great variety of electives and concentrations of the programme and the programme’s reputation as the top MiF in the world.
In addition to being a student ambassador, Juan Sebastián is an active member of the LatAm Club and the Football Club. He spends his spare time practicing football, reading and traveling.
