Committed classmates

“You’re surrounded by passionate, intelligent people. Everybody is dedicated to the programme and to what they’re learning.”

“I had worked at Christie’s auction house for nine years as an IT director and felt the time was right to broaden my business knowledge and skillset. My goal was to learn things that I wouldn’t pick up at work."

“EMBA covered topics like corporate finance and financial accounting – subjects I hadn’t explored at Christie’s because they were outside my job description. They’re really practical subjects that you need to know about when looking to grow in your current company or thinking about joining another organisation."

“EMBA gave me the chance to analyse my leadership style and approach. I had lots of conversations with my study group about what it means to be a leader, while exploring the personality traits and qualities I needed to draw out to be a more effective manager. Then we practiced what we learned in group sessions and took that same knowledge back to the workplace."

“The opportunity to learn from world-class thought leaders was a real highlight. Getting to practise different skills with a world-class faculty was such a privilege. They each have their own unique approaches and ways of looking at things.”

Balancing work and study

“I used to plan two weeks ahead so I’d know if I was seeing friends, spending time with my husband or doing school work.”

Part-time study, full-time commitment

“I expected tough competition when I applied for the 30% Club Scholarship to help fund my studies so it was a real surprise to learn I had been awarded it. You’re competing with many wonderful women, so to be the recipient is incredibly flattering.”

“For me, a part-time programme was ideal. I spent every other Friday and Saturday studying at LBS which then enabled me to apply what I had learnt immediately at work."

“Managing work, study and leisure is all about finding a balance. I used to plan two weeks ahead so I’d know if I was seeing friends, spending time with my husband or doing school work. We had two wonderful social representatives in our class who organised activities throughout the term. It’s a great way for people to bond while getting to know each other better outside the classroom."

“I also sat on two committees for CSR and women’s networking respectively at Christie’s. So it was hectic, but I was lucky to be based in London. Some of my classmates got the Eurostar from Paris every two weeks and others come in from Atlanta or California. We had a few people travelling from Russia and Israel and one woman commuted from Singapore for two terms while waiting for a job transfer to London. I had a very easy situation in comparison."

“At LBS you’re surrounded by passionate, intelligent people. Everybody is so dedicated to the
programme and to what they’re learning. Throw yourself 100% in and make sure you have support from friends and family to get the most out of it.”
