MyDaybySylviaAnnHewlett5:00 AM Slept in today, unusual for me. I head to the gym to swim (this physical activity helps get me ready for the day), then I return home to get my 12-year-old ready for school. She’s taking the city bus to school on her own – slightly daunting.

8:00 AM Breakfast with sponsors of our new research on women in emerging markets. Bloomberg, Booz & Company, Intel, Pfizer and Siemens are all on-board: looking at differing realities for women in Brazil, Russia, India and China, as well as in the United Arab Emirates. Surveying women in these countries and conducting virtual focus groups through our VSS technology are tremendous tasks. The sponsors help us shape the research to track what is crucial in the marketplace today and tomorrow.

11:00 AM Dedicated time to work through the last edits on Top Talent: Keeping Performance Up When Business Is Down. I always think my newest book will be my last because the writing process is, well, a process. This project grew from research with members amidst the market crash, helping them to make the crisis a learning experience. I am always amazed and grateful for the honesty of people in our focus groups and surveys: it makes everything we do much more powerful.
