Dr Gertjan Vlieghe’s research focuses largely on macroeconomics with an emphasis on monetary policy, in particular the role of credit, borrower balance sheets and asset prices.
He is a member of the Monetary Policy Committee, Bank of England, which is a role he has held since September 2015.
Previously, he was a partner and senior economist at Brevan Howard Asset Management, researching global macroeconomic trends and their interaction with asset prices. From 2005 to 2007 he was a bond strategist at Deutsche Bank. From 1998 to 2005 he held a number of posts at the Bank of England, including economic assistant to the former governor, Mervyn King.
Dr Vlieghe holds a doctorate from the London School of Economics.
