Texas Instruments: SC Group Order Fulfillment

Subject

Economics, Strategy and Entrepreneurship

Publication Year

1996

Abstract

The case provides an overview of TI's semiconductor business's reengineering programme begun in 1991. The case details the high level activities undertaken in defining the group's six core business processes: Product Development, Customer Design Support, Manufacturing capability Development, Customer Communications and Order Fulfilment, then moves on to describe the order fullfilment initiative in greater detail. The case raises three points: The number and scope of business processes defined in the SC initiative; the sequence of activities undertaken and the establishment of a competency centre to develop the group's reengineering methodology and approach; and the challenges seen ahead as the company moves from planning reengineering to implementing reengineering.
