Abstract
Spirent PLC is a world market leader in the telecommunications testing industry. Under the leadership of Nick Brookes, the company formerly know as Bowthorpe underwent a radical shift in strategic direction in the period 1997-2001 as it moved from being a diversified industrial conglomerate to a fast-growing high-technology company. The case is set in January 2002 as Nick Brookes considers the changes of the last year, including a dramatic slowdown in the company's core telecommunications market.
