Spain is renowned for its sunshine, beaches, tapas and other wonderful things that attract millions of foreign tourists each year. But despite the size of Spain's economy, Europe's 5th largest, the country is not renowned for its multinational corporations. One exception is S.A Chupa Chups. Founded in 1957, S.A Chupa Chups is the original company of the Barcelona based Chupa Chups group, which now included subsidiaries in distribution, trading, banking, marketing, confectionery machine manufacturing and insurance. (See Appendix A: The Chupa Chups Group). The group trades in more that 130 countries and has manufacturing facilities in 5 countries with plans for further expansion. It had consolidated turnover of US$ 194 Million in 1994. All activities have been developed around an empire on one product - A lollipop.
