After obtaining a BSc in Chemical Engineering in Nigeria, an MSc in Process Technology from the University of Warwick, and some work experience within the oil and gas industry as a project engineer, Dolapo decided to explore fashion entrepreneurship by starting a business that combined technology and fashion. Her Damaris Solaris bag, capable of charging mobile devices on the go, was sold in Nigeria. She launched OYSBY, a premium footwear brand, in 2014; since OYSBY’s inception, she has been named Designer to Watch by the Vamp, and has won praise from editors of style magazines including Vogue, InStyle and Oprah Magazine. She was also named a UK Footwear Designer of the Year finalist by Drapers, the leading UK business-to-business magazine and website. Her designs have been worn by celebrities such as Carrie Underwood and Fifth Harmony.
Dolapo decided an MBA at LBS was important in order to expand her network within the business community and help her take her entrepreneurial ambitions to the next level. She is currently a Mo Ibrahim Scholar at LBS and the Vice President of Special Projects for the LBS African Club. She also combines her studies with being a mother of two.
During the 1st year, Dolapo worked on the Accel Awards, an entrepreneurship award set up by the Africa club which has already received positive feedback of its impact on its participants’ businesses. Over the summer, she spent time with the cash flow planning team at Baker Hughes, a GE Company, which was a good opportunity for her to get a working exposure to finance. She hopes to be able to use this experience to benefit her own business’ finances. In the 2nd year, Dolapo will be spending more time on a new business idea in retail logistics, continue to work on her existing footwear brand and attend classes to earn her MBA degree.
