David Williams has been appointed the first non-professional golfer to chair the European Tour’s board of directors.
The London Business School alumnus secured the role for his business acumen, after gaining 30 years’ experience in the consumer, leisure and retail fields.
Williams held senior roles with Whitbread, Diageo, PepsiCo Restaurants and Mothercare, making him the prime candidate to boost the European Tour’s commercial power. He succeeded former Ryder Cup player Neil Coles, who held the post for 38 years.
Before embarking on his career, Williams gained an MSc in management from London Business School in 1978. Read more on the BBC.
