New career move? New CV

A good CV is your calling card to a prospective employer so make it work for you.

The purpose of a CV is to secure an interview, so your CV needs to be a concise, highly targeted sales tool, not a biography. A cover letter should complement, but not repeat, the information in your CV and should be designed to demonstrate your enthusiasm and motivation for the role. If you are a career switcher, your cover letter gives you the chance to highlight your relevant transferrable skills.

Career strategy

We recommend working on your CV only after you have developed a career strategy and defined your targets. Prepare an achievements database as part of your process of self-assessment to make writing your CV far easier and allow you to rapidly tailor your CV every time.

CV reviews

Ask experts from your target sector who are part of your network to give you feedback on your CV. Does it highlight the skills and attributes valued by that industry? Ask those who work in your target company whether you are using the most appropriate achievements for a particular role.

Our in-house career coaches can also review your CV and give comments and suggestions in person or by phone. This may be part of a career coaching session or a stand-alone meeting.
