How to apply

Next start: 1 September 2016

Applications to the Masters in Management class commencing in September 2016 are now closed and the class is full.

Applications for MiM2018 will open on 1 August 2016, and our Admissions Team will begin reviewing applications from 22 August 2016. You will not need to wait for the first recommended deadline to submit your application but please be aware that applications submitted before the 22nd will not be reviewed until this date.

What we need from you

  • A completed online application form

The application form is designed to be completed over several sessions. You can save your work as you go and submit the completed form whenever you are ready.

  • Your application essays

Application essays are your opportunity to tell us more about yourself and detail your interests, values and goals. We are interested in what motivates you, evidence of leadership and team work, why you are looking to pursue a Masters in Management, and what you will bring to the LBS community.

Essays are a vital part of your application and we recommend that you spend a significant amount of time in their preparation. They must be specific to the current application and personal statements will not be accepted in lieu of the essays.

  • GMAT (range 600-800) / GRE equivalent score)

Candidates with exceptional academic performance may be considered for a waiver. Read our FAQ page for more information about our GMAT/GRE waiver policy. Practise the GMAT test with London Business School's GMAT simulator and prepare yourself for the real thing.

    Our institution codes are:
    GMAT = Z11-J7-40
    GRE = 3805

  • A one page CV

We recommend that you use our CV template. Follow the instructions within the online application form to attach the document to your application.

  • Name and details of two referees

Names and details of two referees. Preferably one academic and one professional provided in the online system.

  • Proof of your English language ability

If English is not your native language, or if you have not been studying fully in English or living in an English-speaking country for at least two years, please submit your IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge CPE, CAE or PTE Academic score. Other tests will not be accepted.

Download proving your English language ability (PDF, 100 KB) for guidance.

  • Application fee

£90 for the programme beginning September 2016 (non-refundable). Payable online by credit card upon submission of your application. Your application will remain incomplete and will not be reviewed until the correct fee is received. An application fee waiver is available to graduates of the University of London upon production of your degree transcript.

  • A copy of your university transcript(s)

A copy of your university transcript(s), including a comprehensive record of completed courses, grades and class of degree received and, if possible, a class ranking. We cannot review your application without this information. If your transcript is not in English you must provide a certified or notarised English translation. If you have not yet completed your degree you will need to request a transcript that is current at the time of applying. Admitted students will be required to provide original copies upon the programme start.

  • What to expect after you have submitted your application
    • Apply as early as possible for the best chance of achieving a place. In most cases you will receive a final decision within six to eight weeks of submitting your completed application.

    • We apply the same selection throughout the admissions cycle but competition is often more intense in the final months.

    • Interviews conducted by alumni may take longer to coordinate, and the scheduling of your interview will not affect your application.

    • You must submit all required documents, including essays, GMAT/GRE, references and transcript(s) before we can consider your application. Please note that we will notify you if there is anything missing from your application before your file is reviewed by the Admissions Committee, and if so you will be given a deadline to submit this information. However, if by the deadline the requested documentation is still missing, your application will ultimately be reviewed by the Committee whether it is complete or not and the decision to take your application to the interview stage will be made on the basis of the information submitted.

    • Allow yourself sufficient time to prepare your application thoroughly. Carefully consider your answers to the essay questions, elect your referees and prepare for the GMAT/GRE.

    • We operate a waitlist system and waitlist applicants receive regular updates at scheduled dates. Each year a number of waitlist candidates are successful in getting a place on the programme.

    • All decisions are communicated via email. We are not able to discuss a candidate's decision over the phone, or with anyone other than the applicant. We will contact you directly should any document or information be missing.

Important dates

Offers are made throughout the year and the recommended dates below are a guide of when you can expect to hear from us. The deadline is determined by when your application is complete, not when it is submitted.

Please be advised that the Admissions Committee reserves the right to send decisions outside of these deadlines. In order to ensure flexibility in this process, decisions may be sent on a rolling basis at any point throughout the year, and we will aim to send you a decision within 6-8 weeks. Please note that interviews conducted by alumni may take longer to coordinate, and the scheduling of your interview will not affect the decision making process.

You must submit all required documents, including essays, GMAT/GRE, references and transcript(s) by the recommended deadline for you to be considered within that timeframe.

The recommended deadlines for the 2016 intake (MiM2017 class) are:

Masters in Management

We apply the same selection throughout the admissions cycle but competition is often more intense later on in the cycle. If you require a visa to study in the UK or wish to be considered for a London Business School scholarship you are strongly encouraged to apply no later than the end of April 2016.

Allow yourself sufficient time to prepare your application thoroughly. Carefully consider your answers to the essay questions, select your referees and prepare for the GMAT/GRE. It is more important to apply with a complete application than to apply early with an incomplete application. It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that their application is complete upon submission. The Admissions Committee reserves the right to make a final decision on any submitted application.

Please note that all decisions are communicated via email.

Candidates based in China and India

If you reside in or near China and India, please note that members of our Admissions Team will be visiting Mumbai, Delhi, Beijing and Shanghai in early 2016 to conduct candidate interviews, please see deadlines (for both Masters in Management and Global MiM) below:

Please note that a small number of candidates may be interviewed earlier as members of the team are making short trips to Mumbai, Bangalore and Shanghai in December 2015. Spaces are very limited and only applications submitted by the November deadline will be considered.

As we will have limited interview places available, we would advise you to not rush into an early application in order to meet these deadlines and to only consider them if your application is complete. Places are limited and once they have been filled, the remaining candidates invited to interview will be put on hold until the 2016 trips. This will not have any impact on your application status or final decision as the 2016 trips are part of our planned admissions calendar and will be when the majority of applicants from these regions are interviewed.
