How to apply

The final deadline for the Executive MBA programme commencing on 4 September 2016 has now passed. With a view to recruiting a class of the best possible quality we hold a small number of spaces for strong candidates. We are, therefore, still accepting applications. If you would like to be considered for the September 2016 intake of the Executive MBA, please contact the Recruitment team as soon as possible to discuss timelines.
All candidates on the waitlist who do not ultimately receive an offer for the September 2016 intake will automatically be given an offer for the January 2017 intake of the Executive MBA.
What we need
A completed online application form (which can be saved and completed over time), with your application essays, a one-page CV/resume and names and details of two referees.
You also need to arrange for us to receive:
- a transcript of grades from each university you have attended
- your GMAT or EA score
- proof of your English Language ability
- your application fee of £160
- Round 1: 29th February
- Round 2: 4th April
- Round 3: 2nd May
- Round 4: 6th June
- Round 5: 4th July
Your application will be acknowledged within two working days of submission. If short listed, you will be interviewed. Interviews are conducted by Executive MBA alumni or by members of the Admissions Committee. You will be notified of the final decision within one week of your interview.
There is no fee for graduates of London Business School, the University of London, Columbia University and The University of Hong Kong. You will need to produce your transcript as proof of graduation.
If you have the recommendation from a London Business School alumnus you may not have to pay the application fee. Alumni should email the Executive MBA Programme Office stating their relationship with the candidate and the reasons for the recommendation before you submit your application.
Executive Assessment (EA)
From March 2016 onwards, we will be looking at a new way of assessing candidates for our Executive MBA programme. Brought to you by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), creators of the GMAT® exam, the EA has been developed for time sensitive executives - the assessment is easy to schedule, short in duration, and requires only modest preparation. London Business School, along with five other top-tier Executive MBA Business Schools have begun accepting the new Executive Assessment for admission to the Executive MBA programme.
This is a fantastic tool that is as much about the candidates’ needs as it is about our need to assess candidates. Like the GMAT, the EA offers you the chance for a full diagnostic and to assess your own readiness to undertake an Executive MBA programme. What’s different now is that there is no need to invest more of your time than should be necessary to show us in the Executive MBA admissions team that you are ready for the challenge.

In exceptional cases, the GMAT or GRE can be waived. We will consider GMAT waivers for candidates whose work experience, professional status or prior degree/training indicates a high level of analytical or quantitative ability. Please note that GMAT waivers are rare, and are only given to candidates with a suitable level of seniority. Requests for waivers will be considered after candidates have submitted their online application, as part of the application review. The Admissions Committee decides on a candidate's eligibility for a GMAT waiver in all cases. The Admissions Committee may require any candidate to take the GMAT or GRE at its own discretion, and may also ask that a candidate complete an alternative test or an online course in order to meet the conditions of admission.
What you need
You should hold a position of responsibility and be a decision-maker in your role. Successful applicants typically have 7 to 25 years of relevant experience. This could include the management of people, budgets, projects, resources or processes.
You should have a good undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification. If you do not have a degree, we may still consider your application if you have worked in a position with a high level of responsibility.
You should be proactive and driven with strong leadership potential and the ability to set and achieve goals.
You should demonstrate healthy career progression during your employment history.
Motivations for applying
We want to understand your motivations for applying to the Executive MBA and how you feel the programme will help you fulfil your career objectives.
The Executive MBA attracts students from approximately 30 countries. We select students with an international outlook, and/or those who can build on existing international exposure. You should demonstrate your ability to work with people from different backgrounds and in cross-cultural teams.
We place particular emphasis on working in teams. You should demonstrate flexibility and respect for different approaches. You must be able to aid the development of your fellow students and contribute to the lifelong learning environment of the School.
Your application will be considered by the Admissions Committee in keeping with the deadlines for the programme. The interview feedback will be used by the Admissions Committee to reach a decision which may be:
1. Reject – Your application will come to an end for this year but the option to apply in the subsequent admission cycle is available
2. Waitlist – LBS is not prepared to make an offer at this stage but remain open to gathering more information concerning your candidacy given the strengths of your application
3. Offer – The exceptional merits of your application and interview mean LBS would like to offer you a place to join the EMBA programme
