Ellen’s coaching and facilitation experience has been influenced by her time in the workplace and in higher education over a 35-year career. She began her professional career in the finance sector, originally in New York, and gained global experience whilst having been London-based since 1988. Over the course of 25 years, she worked in front-line, client-facing roles as an investment banker and latterly as a senior manager responsible for attracting, developing and retaining talent. Her interest in cultivating and optimising talent stretches far back in her career and is the “red thread” connecting her work experience to her coaching and leadership interests.
In 2008, Ellen began her affiliation with London Business School (LBS), initially as an Executive in Residence within the Organisational Behaviour Department to bridge theory and practice for the Centre for Women in Business and in support of her passion and commitment to seeing women achieve better representation in leadership positions. In a pro bono role, Ellen also acted as Director for Women2Win, a pressure group, dedicated to nurturing and promoting women into the pipeline for elected office, primarily as MPs. In her full-time roles at LBS, from 2014-2017, Ellen was responsible for coaching and delivering a full suite of career development tools to the most senior degree programme students and to all the School’s alumni. She has extensive career and leadership coaching experience across all degree programmes at LBS, from pre-experience Masters students to senior Sloan Fellows and Alumni. She has served as lead coach for Executive Leadership for the Sloan Programme for 2018 and 2019, working in close collaboration with Organisational Behaviour faculty. She has recently commenced coaching for the LBS Executive MBA Dubai 2021 cohort.
Ellen’s coaching is Humanistic in approach, with an emphasis on the importance of autonomous growth supported by empathy and authenticity. She focuses on the individual; listening, providing feedback and offering hypotheses and suggesting options. She is a 2010 graduate of the Meyler Campbell Business Coaching Programme and is recognised as a certified practitioner by the British Psychological Society. She is qualified in NEO (A &B) and TalentSage 5Step psychometric tools. She completed the Relational Coaching module at Ashridge/Hult Business School in December 2018. Ellen is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania (BA, 1983) and holds dual nationality (US/UK).
Ellen’s coaching is centred around helping individuals and teams reach their professional potential; within public, private or charitable organisations or as self-employed entrepreneurs or non-executives. Successful coaching should help and support individuals to gain unique insights into their strengths, skills and passions. It should create greater self-awareness and lead to the design of a useful framework to incorporate these elements in a professional context. It should drive an increased understanding of one’s talents and gaps, seen through a leadership lens, and result in a pragmatic, individually-tailored development plan.
