Simon Borrows MSc19(1985) was appointed CEO of 3i, the investment management and mid-market private equity firm, in May 2012 – just seven months after joining the company as Chief Investment Officer.
Previously, Borrows spent 13 years at Greenhill & Co where he founded the investment bank’s European business. He became Co-President of the bank when it floated on the New York Stock Exchange in 2004. Three years later, Borrows was appointed Co-Chief Executive. He retired from Greenhill in May, 2011.
Before launching Greenhill in Europe, Borrows was the Managing Director of Baring Brothers International, the corporate finance division of ING Barings (1995 and 1998). Prior to joining Baring Brothers in 1988, Borrows worked in the corporate finance department of Morgan Grenfell.
