The Alumni Council supports the School in developing and implementing the alumni engagement strategy, helping to strengthen the alumni community as well as the School's overall competitive position. Alumni Council members solicit and proactively represent the views and interests of alumni, acting as a bridge between alumni and the School. The Council aims to grow alumni engagement, building a lifelong sense of pride and belonging.
I am honoured to be Chair of the Alumni Council and an ex-officio member of the School’s Governing Body.
The Alumni Council looks at what matters to alumni and what matters to the School and finds the congruence between the two things. We are a bridge. We represent alumni views and we advise the Dean and the School’s leadership on matters that impact alumni.
Our 25-strong Council meets quarterly, with a 2-day working off-site once a year, and many interactions in between. In addition to performing ongoing activities, the Council works also on a series of specific initiatives to support alumni and the School: in the past these have fallen into four key categories – (i) alumni services and resources, (ii) alumni clubs, (iii) fundraising, and (iv) brand, marketing and communications. As an illustration, recently, we have actively engaged with regional alumni club leaders to concretely support their local activities. We also leveraged alumni feedback to input into and test the School new alumni platform for networking and clubs – LBS Hub. Equally we work with the School to input into the broader digital landscape for alumni and opportunities for lifelong learning.

Chair, Alumni Council
The Alumni Council comprises 25 alumni, who are appointed by the Council's Governance and Nominations Committee (GNC). There are 3 further seats filled by representatives from the School, including the Dean, plus a student representative. Through virtue of his/her role on the Alumni Council, the Chair of the Council sits on the School's Governing Body.
Alumni Council terms of office are for three years with a limit of two consecutive terms, when a break in service is required before any potential re-appointment. Council in-person meetings are held once per year in London (usually for 2 days in September) and a further three times per year via zoom (usually for 90 minutes in duration). Members are expected to serve as ambassadors in their region and attend local events throughout the year, along with supporting the Advancement team with advice and support as needed and taking part in any Alumni Council working groups or projects. All Alumni Council members are donors to the School each year and are encouraged to consider joining the School’s Regent’s Circle (gifts of £1000+ per year or £500+ per year for new alumni).
Each year positions on the Alumni Council will become vacant as members complete their terms of office and the GNC is always keen to hear from alumni interested in joining the Council. Typically members have a strong history of volunteering for the School and are committed to supporting mutually beneficial relationships between the School and alumni. Since we believe it is important that the Council broadly represents the breadth of the alumni community, each year the GNC analyses the demographic balance of the Alumni Council and produces demographic criteria for forthcoming nominations. In 2022, we will be seeking 11 alumni to join the Council.
2022 Demographic criteria
In 2022 we are particularly interested in receiving applications from alumni who meet one or more of the following criteria:
Geography: China, UK (with preference for London) and USA (with preference for New York and San Francisco)
Year of graduation: Prior to 1990
