Programme details

The PhD Programme is our investment in the future of management teaching and research.

Through our faculty of renowned academics, pre-eminent in their fields, you will receive thorough, sophisticated training in the latest methods of inquiry, as well as access to leading-edge thinking.

Your PhD training

During the programme, you will focus on two areas:

  • coursework, to give you a grasp of research skills and the existing body of research knowledge in your field
  • a closely supervised thesis to provide the experience of conducting a substantial piece of original research

Programme structure

Years One and Two
You will be required to complete:

  • at least 12 courses
  • a specialist field exam (depending on your subject area)
  • a research paper (during the second year).

Years Three and Four

  • during your third year, you transfer from MPhil to PhD status
  • you take an oral exam on your thesis proposal before three faculty members
  • you'll be expected to complete your thesis within 18 months of the proposal exam.

Key dates for admissions

  • applications are due by 8 January
  • short-listed applicants are invited to an interview in February/March
  • orientation for new students takes place in mid-September
  • academic year starts in October
