Funding and support

Scholarships

All students offered a place on the programme will receive a scholarship. PhD scholarships:

  • cover tuition fees and a stipend (for living costs)
  • are guaranteed for four years, subject to satisfactory academic performance.

Students are expected to apply for any alternative support for which they are eligible.

Continuation fees

If you continue your PhD beyond four years, you'll need to pay a continuation fee. Students who continue into a fifth year can apply for a remission of the continuation fee. Those who stay for a sixth or seventh year will be charged a higher fee.

The deadline for thesis submission is 7 years.

Funding Sources

ESRC DTC research studentships
The PhD Programme at London Business School has been accredited as a Doctoral Training Centre by The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) for the award of research studentships.

External funding
Foreign students are expected to seek scholarships from educational foundations or relevant government agencies in their own country for which they are eligible.

Non-UK applicants who wish to apply for scholarships from UK government funds for overseas students should contact the British Council or British Embassy offices in their own country.

Note: These funds are not normally available once students arrive in the UK.
