Research
The growth in the Private Equity market over the last decade is not in dispute. However its validity as an alternative Governance Model in terms of creating sustainable returns both at the enterprise level and as alternative asset class for investors has attracted significant media coverage. In fact the focus the industry has faced from politicians, trade unionists and regulators demonstrates prima facie just how broad an impact the industry now has on the economic and social infrastructure. In addition to the dramatic expansion in capital markets, legal and transaction services, the proliferation of Private Equity has created and promoted the development of other businesses established to provide original and secondary investment capital.
The research programme is at the heart of the Institute's overall strategy of advancing the understanding of private equity.
Headed by Professor Eli Talmor as its Chairman and Professor Viral Acharya as its new Academic Director, the PEI has been involved in a number of important collaborative research projects. Additionally Professor Francesca Cornelli was a member of the core research team selected to investigate and review the global economic impact of Private Equity, commissioned by the World Economic Forum as part of their "Globalisation of Alternative Investments" project.
The Private Equity Institute fundamental aim is to conduct Research in areas that of the greatest relevance to the industry and its stakeholders, utilising rigorous academic based methodologies and involving Faculty across a broad range of disciplines. The PEI has undertaken research independently and in collaboration with selective partners. Finally within the area of research the Institute has a role in creating a platform for involving the students. Depending on their exact scope, some of these projects may be undertaken by London Business School students as part of their Masters programmes supervised by a member of Faculty.
