Likierman appointed chair of National Audit Office
Following the passing of the necessary legislation, Parliament has approved the appointment of London Business School’s Dean, Professor Sir Andrew Likierman, as Chair of the National Audit Office (NAO).
Speaking in the House of Commons on 7 December, British Prime Minister David Cameron said Sir Andrew, currently the NAO's acting chairman, was a "distinguished public servant" with extensive knowledge and experience of business and public service.
Mr Cameron said: "This is the first time that a Prime Minister has moved a motion to appoint the chair of the National Audit Office.
"At a time when we're getting to grips with a record budget deficit, and when families and businesses up and down the country are working hard to make ends meet, it is more important than ever that we get the best possible value for money in public service delivery."
The NAO, he added, had a "vital role" to play in holding the Government to account and ensuring it achieved the greatest possible value for money.
Sir Andrew, who has already held the post for three years on a pre-legislation basis, said: “It’s an honour to hold this post for an organisation devoted to getting the best out of limited public funding”.
