A quartet of London Business School professors have been shortlisted across four categories for this year's Thinkers50 awards.

Nirmalya Kumar has been nominated for the Global Village Award, which is given to the person who contributes most to the business community's understanding of globalisation and the new frontiers established by the emerging markets.

The School has further reason to celebrate after Costas Markides was nominated in the Innovation Award category.

The Innovation Award will be given to the nominee thought to best re-shape the way the business community views and practices pioneering thought.

Julian Birkinshaw received a nomination for the Book Award for his outing Reinventing Management (Jossey-Bass). This category seeks to assess which business book has made the outstanding contribution to management thinking over the last two years.

And finally the School's Rob Goffee, together with Gareth Jones - who have already won a McKinsey Prize for their HBR article Why Should Anyone Be Led By You? - are now up for a Thinkers50 gong for the Leadership Award. This looks at thinkers who have contributed most significantly to our understanding of leadership.

Their latest effort, Clever, deals with how to lead the smartest people in the room.

Professor Sir Andrew Likierman, Dean, London Business School, commented: "I'm delighted to see that several London Business School faculty have been shortlisted for the Thinkers50 awards. Our vision is to have a profound impact on the way the world does business and their nominations indicate that our research is seen as important by the business community."

This year's ceremony will feature seven categories in total, also including Breakthrough Idea; Strategy; Leadership; Future Thinker and the Thinkers50 Best Business Book.

Thinkers50 co-creator Des Dearlove said: "The Thinkers50 is a celebration of the very best new management thinking. We are looking for ideas with a potential impact that extends beyond the business world to address issues ranging from reducing poverty to building a sustainable model of capitalism."

The award ceremony will take place on 14 November in London.
