London Business School welcomed a group of students from Burlington Danes Academy in West London to a workshop aimed at improving their understanding of business.

The group of Year 11 and Year 13 BTEC Business Study students, accompanied by their teacher Laura Megaw, took part in number of activities, culminating in a competition based on the popular BBC business programme Dragons’ Den.

The students were met by Sir Andrew Likierman, Dean of the School, for an introduction and tour of the facilities.

Following the tour, the students took part in an exercise designed to show the importance of teamwork and leadership, led by expert Brian Willman, who has been a leading figure in Executive Education at the School for over 10 years including teaching on the open programmes The Accelerated Development Programme and Essentials of Leadership.

Key areas in this exercise focused on how to energise teams and individuals to perform, and how successful teamwork can lead to synergy.

For the Dragons’ Den activity, the students were split into four groups and pitched their new business ideas to two experts, Michael Hay, Professor of Management Practice at the School, and Veron Strachan, a developmental psychologist and HR consultant formerly with Guardian Newspapers.

Each team received feedback and advice on how to present new business ideas.
