Thinkers 50
School faculty among world's top business gurus as ranked by The Times
Four London Business School faculty have been ranked in the ‘Thinkers 50’ - a list of the year's most influential business thinkers published by The Times. All the professors have moved up in the rankings on their positions from the previous list (2005).
Congratulations go to Professor of Management Practice Lynda Gratton; Professor of Organisational Behaviour Rob Goffee; Professor of Strategic and International Management Costas Markides and Visiting Professor of Strategic Management Gary Hamel who all appear in this year’s ranking. Professor Charles Handy, previously of London Business School and co-founder of the School’s innovative Sloan Fellowship programme, also appears on the list. They are in excellent company; CK Prahalad; Bill Gates; Jack Welch; and Steve Jobs also feature in the list.
Nominations for ‘Thinkers 50’ are compiled initially from a public vote. Short-listed candidates are then selected by a judging panel and assessed against criteria including: originality of ideas, presentation style, written communication, international outlook, rigour of research and ‘guru factor’.
Professor Gratton, one of only three women on the list, specialises in human resources, social capital and innovation, as well as undertaking ground-breaking work looking at women in business. She moves up the list from number 34 to 19. In her book Hot Spots, published earlier this year, she examined how innovative energy is created and maintained. The Times describes her as having an ‘enthusiasm which is as infectious as her ideas'.

Rob and Gareth will publish a follow-up book based on their hugely successful HBR article ‘Leading Clever People’ in 2008.
