Professor Ralph Sims

Thought leaders discuss the future of the global energy mix

The London Business School Energy Club hosted their second Global Energy Summit at London Business School on Friday 2 November 2007.

The Summit brought together leaders from the energy sector, government, consulting, banking, and academia to discuss the future of the global energy mix. In particular, the conference addressed the challenges involved in balancing nations’ quest for energy security with society’s desire to reduce the environmental impact of ever increasing energy demand.

The keynote speaker, Professor Ralph Sims, lead author of the Power and Renewables Chapter of the UN's Intergovernmental Planet on Climate Change, discussed how we can plot the path towards an environmentally friendly and secure energy future.

Five panels then provided very lively and interactive discussions on topics ranging from carbon trading to the motivation behind companies’ wishes to be green as well as discussions on alternative petroleum based technologies and renewables. Speakers included representatives from Accenture, RWE, Wood Mackenzie, Shell, Merrill Lynch and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature amongst many other companies.
