Lisa Moynihan

A great loss to our community

It is with great sorrow that London Business School reports the death of Assistant Professor of Organisational Behaviour, Lisa Moynihan. Lisa passed away on 7 October 2007. She had been battling breast cancer over the past two years.

Lisa Moynihan joined the faculty of London Business School in 2002 as Assistant Professor. Randall Peterson, Professor of Organisational Behaviour and Deputy Dean (Faculty), who has known Lisa since she was a Ph.D. student at Cornell University where he was on the faculty at the time, comments: “Lisa was a tireless and talented scholar who had already achieved international recognition for her work on high-performance work systems, the employment relationship, knowledge creation and transfer in groups and organisations, teams and work design, personality and group processes. She was also a delightful, smart and hardworking colleague.

“Her loss will be felt throughout the London Business School community and beyond. Our thoughts and prayers are with her partner and family. We will be arranging a memorial in her honour. In the meantime, I join the School community in grieving her loss, while remembering her time with us and celebrating a life lived with integrity, optimism, and dedication to scholarship.”

One of her Ph.D. advisors, Cornell Professor Rose Batt added: “Lisa was a terrific scholar and a beloved graduate student in ILR while she was here. I looked back at the recommendation letter I wrote for her when she graduated, and here is an excerpt: ‘Lisa is a wonderful person with great integrity. She is committed and passionate about her work and is already making important contributions to the field. She has played a very important leadership role among graduate students here, mentoring some students, helping to integrate international students with US students, and pushing to improve the graduate program where needed.’ ”
