Speaker(s): Xavier Rolet, CEO, London Stock Exchange
Up Close series for current students
Xavier Rolet, CEO of the London Stock Exchange will talk to students on the future of financial regulation and the City.
Learning from the past, securing the future: How regulation can most effectively support the market
The recent crisis has shone a light on weaknesses in the economic system, related to market activity, monetary policy and the regulatory architecture.
As the leading financial centres begin to move out of recession, Governments across the world are turning their attention to how the causes of the crisis can be addressed to avoid a repeat of the past two years.
Xavier Rolet argues that effective regulation and market supervision are essential to a stable economic system.? He argues that regulation must not only be proportionate and well drafted, but also properly implemented by skilled and informed regulators who are close to the markets they regulate.
Xavier Rolet joined the LSE Group Board as a Director on 16 March 2009 and became CEO on 20 May 2009.
Prior to joining the London Stock Exchange, Xavier was Chief Executive Officer of Lehman Brothers in France from July 2007 to January 2009. He was appointed a member of the Lehman Brothers? European Operating Committee in 2003, having joined the firm in February 2000 in New York as deputy co-head of Global Equity Trading.
Xavier started his career working for Robert E. Rubin on the International Arbitrage desk at Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York in January 1984.?In 1990, he was promoted to co-head of European Equity Sales and Trading at Goldman Sachs International Limited and moved to London.?He joined Credit Suisse First Boston in 1994 as global head of European Equities before moving to Dresdner Kleinwort Benson as global head of Risk and Trading, and deputy head of Global Equities in 1997.
