International exchange

London Business School's MBA Programme has one of the largest international exchange programmes in the World. Each year approximately 35% of second year MBAs, chosen by competition, spend a term abroad building new business networks at one of over 30 world-class partner schools.  A similar number of students from partner schools come to London Business School, further broadening the international mix here in London.

Whilst on exchange, students take courses worth up to four elective credits.  To ensure that students gain the maximum cultural and educational benefit from their exchange, they are generally prohibited from returning to a country where they have lived for three or more years during adulthood.

Jessie Mello (Bermuda, MBA 2005)
Consultant, Economic Research Associates

'I chose London Business School because I had always dreamed of working internationally, but found it difficult to convince employers in my industry that I was up for the task.  In my two years at the School, I underwent a professional makeover!  I interned in a Swiss bank in Geneva over the summer (in French), and I studied Chinese business intensively for four months while on exchange in Hong Kong. I improved my French and Spanish, learned basic Chinese, and took superb electives like International Business and World Economy.

I chose to go on exchange to Hong Kong because I wanted some in-depth experience in Asia, and because China is a huge growth market in the entertainment and leisure industry where I work. I took valuable classes like Managing in Chinese Cultures and Venture Capital in Asia at my exchange school, and learned basic Mandarin Chinese. I made great connections with local professionals in my industry by attending conferences like the China Visitor Attractions Summit in Shanghai and the Venture Capital Association's annual conference in Hong Kong. I also made some lasting friendships with Hong Kong and mainland Chinese students from my exchange school, and with a group of London Business School alumni who welcomed me into their social circles as soon as I arrived.

Upon graduation I took up a position as a consultant at ERA, which is a niche economics consultancy in leisure and entertainment.  They needed experienced professionals whom they could send to any country in the world for an assignment without worrying about them. They offered me the job because experiences like my exchange in Hong Kong proved that I'd be just fine.'
