Francesca Cornelli, Associate Professor of Finance

BA (Bocconi), PhD (Harvard)
MBA core course: Finance (Autumn term)

"The diversity of the students' background represents a significant challenge for the introductory finance course. Many students arriving at London Business School already have a familiarity with finance concepts or may have held a finance job, but for others finance is an entirely new experience.

The good news is that this diversity can actually create a wonderful learning environment, where the more knowledgeable students help the less experienced, and can actually improve their own understanding in the process. By the end of the course, I believe all students will have benefited: the "experts" will have learnt new things and understood the logic behind some familiar concepts or practices, and the "novices" will get a good grounding in the finance basics, and along the way discover that finance is actually not as difficult or mysterious as they perhaps first expected."

Angel-Victor de Miguel, Assistant Professor of Decision Sciences

MSc (Universidad Politecnica de Madrid), MSc PhD (Stanford)
MBA core course: Decision and Risk Analysis (Spring term)

"I am constantly impressed by the outstanding academic and human quality of our MBA students. Their diverse cultural and professional backgrounds make teaching at London Business School one of the best experiences of my life. I truly cherish every minute I spend with them and I feel very fortunate because every lecture I learn from my students at least as much as they learn from me."

Freek Vermeulen, Associate Professor of Strategic and International Management

MA PhD (Tilburg University)
MBA core course: Strategy (Autumn term)

"This course is about the 'big picture'. We will be exploring different concepts and tools that can help you understand the environment that a company finds itself in, the resources it needs to obtain, and the organisation it needs to build. Through various company cases, we will introduce conceptual models and analytical techniques that help you develop and implement a consistent and coherent strategy in today's business world."

Babis Mainemelis, Assistant Professor of Organisational Behaviour

BS (Thessaloniki), MBA (San Francisco), PhD (Case Western Reserve)
MBA core course: Managing Organisational Behaviour (Autumn term)

"Five years after graduation MBA alumni rank Organisational Behaviour in the top two most useful courses they took in business school. What makes studying organisational behaviour at London Business School a lifetime experience is that the classroom itself is an unparalleled patchwork of different personalities, cultures, backgrounds, experiences, and dreams. This amazing behavioural microcosm makes MOB an exciting and imaginative learning space for mastering the knowledge and skills required for leading effectively individuals, groups, organisations, and one's own career."

Dennis Oswald, Assistant Professor of Accounting

BComm (Alberta), MSc (London), MBA PhD (Chicago)
MBA core course: Management Accounting (Summer term)

"My course (Management Accounting and Control) provides students with tools to help them obtain and understand relevant cost and control information they will use in making an array of decisions in their future careers.  I enjoy teaching this course because the students will often share their experiences on the particular management topic we are discussing, and given their diverse background everyone in the classroom (including myself) is always learning new things."

Joao F. Cocco, Assistant Professor of Finance

BA (Universidade Catolica Portuguesa), MA PhD (Harvard)
MBA core course: Finance (Autumn term)

"What the students and I like the most is to discuss recent financial events using financial theory to guide us. The topics we have discussed include exchange rate movements, recent mergers, and the financial implications of the recent United States tax reforms. These discussions make for a lively debate. They draw on the students' experiences, and they undoubtedly are an important component of the learning process at the London Business School."
