Teaching and Activities
Our research agenda benefits from an integrated approach that is based on teaching and frequent interaction with business leaders and students. In this way, we maintain a balance between theory and practice.
New elective - Family business: A guide for owners, managers and advisors
For the first time we are offering at London Business School an elective on family business offered in a block week in April 2010. It is designed to give a deep and comprehensive insights into the sector, for students who are or might be owners, managers or service providers to firms in the sector, or any who wish to learn more about its complexities, challenges and fascinations. The course blends theory and practice, providing plentiful opportunity to discuss real live issues and problems, as well as to engage in discussion with a range of guest speakers who will join every session. These will include owners, executives, advisors and experts on family business. Special emphasis will be placed upon the human aspects of their challenge: leadership, culture, conflict management and change.
Master classes
We have enjoyed a long-standing partnership with the Institute for Family Business (IFB UK), the representative body for family firms in the UK. As part of this alliance we have offered a series of Master classes, led by the world's most renowned authorities in the field, including Ivan Lansberg, John Ward, John Davis and Kelin Gersick. As part of this relationship we have also run family business workshops for next generation members, offering them the opportunity to discuss the role of the firm in their career options, and to educate them into issues around governance, succession and the meaning of responsible ownership. Master classes are open to the public and at a discount rate to IFB members. See Events Page for futher details.
