Social Entrepreneurship - Global Social Venture Competition

About

The Global Social Venture Competition is an innovative competition that aims to foster a new generation of business leaders that values the social as well as the profit potential of business. It achieves this by catalyzing and promoting social ventures – for-profit and not-for-profit – that create and measure both the social and financial returns. Winning ventures have included an alternative energy company, a stylish woman's apparel and accessory manufacturer, a nonprofit charter school, an environmentally friendly manufacturing technology company, a microfinance enterprise focused on the developing world and a community employment enterprise operating in rural and low-income areas.

All competing ventures must have a current MBA student actively involved on the venture team and must be in operation for less than 5 years.

The vision, mission and objective of GSVC are:

VISION
We envision a world in which every business values, generates, and accounts for social impact.

MISSION
The purpose of the Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) is to actively support and promote the creation and growth of successful social ventures around the world. We define a social venture as an enterprise that has both financial and social goals integral to its purpose. We strive to elevate the visibility of the field and the quality and quantity of new ventures through our annual business plan competition. Each year our competition rewards a number of social ventures that are most likely to succeed in accomplishing their financial and social missions.

We also work to educate and increase the pool of leaders who can start and grow social ventures. We do this through a dedicated relationship to business schools and to MBA students throughout the world. We will also educate a wider audience of faculty, investors, entrepreneurs, and the broader business community on the value of socially responsible business models as well as the viability of such models. By reaching the students, investors and entrepreneurs of today we hope to create a new generation of future business leaders, one that values both the profit and social potential of business.

OBJECTIVE
GSVC organizes and hosts a social venture business plan competition that provides a global forum for entrepreneurs to showcase their plans and for investors to support groundbreaking social ventures.
