PhD Programme in Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship was established as a separate subject area in 2000. Our aim is to become the recognised European centre of excellence for teaching, research and practice of entrepreneurial management and a leading international entrepreneurship centre.

Factors to consider in making your choice of university department:

  • The School is a world leader in business research: the Higher Education Funding Council for England has again awarded the School the highest possible rating of 6*. The full-time MBA programme is currently ranked number one in the Europe in the Financial Times' 2007 survey.

  • No one nationality dominates London Business School classrooms, with students and Executive Education participants hailing from 221 countries.  The Entrepreneurship department at the School is similarly international in both focus and in the nationalities of staff and students.

  • The School has an outstanding location in Regent's Park in the heart of London, close to the city's business, financial and cultural centres.

  • Our PhD programme provides a rigorous academic training within a supportive and collegial environment.

  • The School's model of Entrepreneurship combining teaching, research and the direct participation in entrepreneurial activities via its seed investment fund (Sussex Place Investment Managers), an on-site incubator unit (Huntsworth Mews), and its close association with the Centre for Scientific Enterprise and the world-class science departments of the colleges of the University of London has made the Entrepreneurship department a model of world-wide interest.

  • The GEM project managed from London Business School and Babson College, Massachusetts, is one of the largest, continuing research activities ever undertaken in the Entrepreneurship field. In 2007, the project will involve individual research teams covering at least 42 countries worldwide. This activity has placed London at the centre of contemporary developments in the research area.

  • The Entrepreneurship department attracts academic visitors from eminent universities and research centres in many countries. These visits are made for fact-finding, to give seminars or to continue to work with Faculty colleagues. The Department has a particularly strong relationship with Babson College, Massachusetts, via a number of senior faculty shares.
