Projects
Working across boundaries, managing ambiguity and change
Some of the key challenges facing global business leaders today are communicating and managing across boundaries, coping with ambiguity, and both dealing with and implementing change. The elements of the Executive MBA that take place outside the School and outside the students' work environments - namely the international assignments - are critical to understanding and facing these key challenges. The other major project undertaken by Executive MBA students, the management report, allows students to focus on areas of interest and apply it to issues concerning their organisations.
International Assignment
Working in small teams, students work with a variety of organisations in divergent economies. The objectives are to:
- gain cross-cultural experiences of other ways of doing business from within, and bring an outside perspective to the organisation
- combine MBA learning with practical experience - you will use your own skills and experience, as well as the frameworks and theories of management learnt at London Business School, and apply them to a genuine business issue
- work as a team with an organisation - students collaborate amongst themselves and with the personnel in the organisation as a single team
- enhance the reputation of London Business School and its EMBA programme as a leading international centre of excellence in business education
- the international assignments provide students with the opportunity to work and study in international environments and to produce a substantial report, not only for internal assessment purposes, but also for the benefit of host organisations.

Management Report
The management report is a major piece of around 7,500 words and is a fundamental part of qualifying for your MBA. Supervised by faculty, it enables you to integrate what you have learned on the programme and apply it to an issue concerning your organisation. Examples of the types of problem that might be addressed by a Management Report include:
- Should your organisation be restructured?
- Should your company's product be re-positioned in the market?
- Are there strategic alliances that your organisation should form?
- Can your firm's foreign exchange risks be better managed?
- Where should your firm locate its planned new plant?
The report is an opportunity for students to 'give something back' to their sponsor while simultaneously developing vital general management skills and addressing a business critical issue.
