Sarah Lyons EMBA 2007 (British) |
"Increasingly, public and non-profit organisations are recognising the need to adopt business practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness, and I chose to do an MBA to develop my management skills in order to contribute to this changing environment. I chose London Business School because of the world class brand and the high proportion of international students.
At the start of the second year of my EMBA, I spent a term on international exchange at Wharton Business School. During my electives taken at the two schools, I focused on strategy, social entrepreneurship and innovation. Now, I use my new skills every day; solutions to business challenges come more quickly and easily, and I am able to help colleagues deliver high quality work to tight deadlines. The EMBA has accelerated my career progression and given me a diverse new network to rely on for years to come."
Dr Zubair Hussain EMBA 2007 (British)
Head of Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance and Compliance for UK and Ireland, Pfizer
"For most people working within a medical function in the healthcare industry, individual development needs tend to focus on understanding and communication of medical science. However, once you have reached a high level of functional expertise within your organisation and if you have strong ambitions to continue developing, it is useful to learn about how a business operates at a broader level and how to better align with your colleagues across the wider organisation.
Doing the Executive MBA changes the way you view your experience. It provides you with a leadership toolkit, which you can immediately apply to your work; a clear advantage for someone working in an industry that is constantly developing and integrating within the ever changing environment.
I have recently been given the responsibility of rolling out a quality assurance and compliance group, which will involve embedding a new culture across the whole organisation. I have found that I am using the leadership skills gained whilst on the programme to facilitate the new responsibilities within my role.
I am passionate about the healthcare industry and intend to always be associated with it. Whether that means being part of a private equity company, a bank or a pharmaceutical company. I am now fully aware of the opportunities that exist through doing this programme. I certainly feel that the knowledge and learning from the MBA has added immensely to my current experience. Not only can I see so many more opportunities for my career, but I also feel that I have the confidence to decide on which opportunities to seize."

Charlie Craven EMBA 2004 (British) |
"The alumni database has been an incredible resource for me since graduating and is definitely one of the key benefits of the EMBA. It is a huge database that can provide access to senior people in international organisations. I discovered through the database that one of my classmates was working for a business that a client had been targeting for some time. We had been trying to crack the UK market, so I contacted my classmate and informed him of our plans.
Through this connection, I was introduced to the leading members of the target organisation. As a result, it looks as though we might be able to crack a major market. It was through the alumni contact that we managed to get the opportunity to meet the decision makers.
The EMBA programme has had a huge impact in that way and has helped develop my career. If you can demonstrate that you have contacts across different industries as a result of the alumni network; that is extremely valuable in any business. I'm sure I will use the network for a long time to come."
Lex Backer EMBA 2002 (Dutch)
Project Manager, Jordan Business Development, Royal Dutch Shell
"I am grateful to my manager who kindly agreed in 1999 to sponsor me through the Executive MBA programme. The experience has further increased my ability to lead multi-discipline international teams and has also opened doors to excellent career opportunities within Royal Dutch Shell that might otherwise have remained closed. My wife and I will always fondly remember our time in London, even though it was sometimes a challenge to balance family, friends, work and study - my two eldest daughters were born during my time at London Business School."
| Dr Jim Shaikh EMBA 2002 (British) Managing Director and owner, Intelligent Fluid Solutions Ltd (Specialist Engineering Consultancy) and Managing Director, Expert Engineering (University-based engineering consultancy) |
"The Executive MBA had a significant impact on both my personal and working life. Without it I would not have discovered that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I have taken control of my working life and have been able to develop a home working model for the main business. I now have greater flexibility at home, which helps with a young family."
| Sam Pickering-Dunn EMBA 2003 (British) Group Marketing Manager, Goodyear Holdings (RSA), Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company |
"The Executive MBA programme opens doors to unlimited opportunities: intellectual stimulation and personal growth to mention two. For me, the most powerful and lasting benefit was the opportunity to build an enduring and extensive global network which, without a doubt, has been a critical factor in launching my career. Be assured that the experience requires you to be committed and determined to invest yourself wholeheartedly in the experience."
Geza Nemesszeghy EMBA 2001 (Hungarian)
Risk Operational Controllership Leader, GE Commercial Finance - Corporate Financial Services (US)
"The Executive MBA gave me the solid business background and the finance knowledge I needed to move into risk management in financial services; a change of both industry and function. The electives I took allowed me to explore special interests including computer modelling, which will stay with me for my professional career. And the exceptional people I met are a huge part of the programme and have meant great networking and a lot of fun."
