This research led by Assistant Professor Lisa Moynihan on Indian Call Centres and BPOs (Business Process Outsourcing) investigates how human resource practices impact service quality and financial performance. The study uses site visits and interviews, as well as survey data collection, to benchmark Indian call centres with those in the United Kingdom and the United States. This research looks at how different firms are using partnerships in India for strategic advantage. It examines partnerships in the form of alliances, joint ventures, outsourcing arrangements as well as acquisitions, in a number of industries, including IT, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. This research has resulted in a series of London Business School case studies.
Foreign Direct Investment

This research has two parts:
- The Determinants and Impact of Foreign Direct Investment in India.
- The Determinant of Entry Modes in Indian Foreign Investments.
- This research project was undertaken in cooperation with the Centre for New and Emerging Markets at London Business School.
Impact of the Indian Policy Environment on Entry Rates by Industry into India, Saul Estrin and Shubashis Gangopadhyay (India Development Foundation). This research endeavour looks at the impact of the Indian policy environment (tax, labour regulations, capital market structures) on entry rates by industry into India. It is part of a larger comparative study on the effect of policy environments on entry rates and barriers to entry of new firms in emerging markets which will be undertaken in the future.
